July 8th Autotest Results

Thank you to all who entered Friday’s Autotest, feedback was very positive, a great way to spend a sunny evening!

We had 7 competitors on the night, all entered into the Autotest section, with a mix of road going and dedicated track cars.

The evening consisted of two tests, one open and flowing using the main straight and top loop, the second a tighter design on the figure 8 at the back of the LCC track, the latter getting some reversing skills on display.

Test 2

Times were improving for all with each attempt, each driver getting 4 runs of each test; the results were very close in the end, impressive considering the very different cars being used.

All times include penalties, as per the supplementary regs.

The overall winner of Test 1 was tied between Don and Calum, both running diesel powered track cars; discovery of a tuning box on the A4 should see it ‘rolling coal’ next time out to make the most of the 4wd, whilst Don will be struggling to keep Sandy at bay, although only if he stops clipping cones!
Martin’s MG would perhaps benefit from a little more weight in front to try and get a bit more grip and braking performance, the potent K-series having plenty grunt to make up for it!
Ross in the Mini has the opposite issue, great handling chassis but not quite enough power to get the overall win, whilst Tim and Dave both had the big six-pots and tyres screaming, the latter putting on a great display linking the course up in a series of power slides, his times were good but mistakes on roundabout direction were costly.

Test 2 would be decided on small mistakes, primarily on clutch work, too much and you stall (Sandy and Don), too little and things start getting warm (Ross and Martin), similar thinking applying to the final reverse into the parking garage, the turn just prior being somewhat deceptive, with unintended J-Turn a distinct possibility. Everyone had it nailed down in the end, the top times nearly to close to call!

Next event will be the evening of Friday 29th July, keep an eye on the website and Facebook pages for more info.
